Youth Brutally Murdered by Wife’s Family Members in Hyderabad
In another murder for alleged hatred of caste marriage, a 22-year-old businessman was brutally killed in public in the busy Begum Bazaar street, allegedly by his wife’s relatives. It came just 15 days after B Nagaraju (26), a business executive was murdered by his wife’s brother and a relative as the brother opposed interfaith marriage.
According to Inspector Shahinayathgunj Y Ajay Kumar, the heinous breach took place around 7:45 p.m. near the fish market when the victim, Neeraj Panwal, was riding a bicycle with his father Rajender Panwal as a passenger. “A group of five people, including the woman’s brother, intercepted the father-son duo in an alley and started attacking Neeraj with knives and stones,” the Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Zone) said. Dr Joel Davis.
He said Neeraj suffered deep wounds and was rushed to Osmania General Hospital by passers-by. “He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment,” the officer said.
Neeraj, a groundnut wholesaler from Afzalgunj, and his wife Sanjana belong to different castes. They loved each other and got married a year and a half ago against the wishes of her parents and family members. Sanjana’s family also lives in the same locality, and the couple recently had a son.
While Sanjana married a man from another caste, her brother decided to eliminate her husband and hatched a plot. “As per their plan, the defendants intercepted the bicycle, pushed Neeraj to the ground and attacked him indiscriminately with knives and stones, as a result he suffered multiple injuries,” another officer said.
A murder case was registered and several teams were formed to catch the assailants. They are also analyzing video footage from surveillance cameras in the area to identify them. “When our team went to Sanjana’s parents, there were only women. The male family members were on the run,” the officer added.
The victim’s body was transferred to the OGH morgue for an autopsy.
