Non-UK family members of UK nationals in Ukraine

Family migration visas

You can apply for a family migration visa for free if you are a family member of a British national who usually lives in Ukraine. Your UK national family member must be one of the following:

  • a spouse or civil partner
  • an unmarried partner (you must have been living together for at least 2 years)
  • your parent if you are under 18
  • your child under 18
  • an adult relative you are caring for who lives with you because of a health condition

You must contact UKVI before applying.

Telephone: +44 300 3032785 – select option 1 (0300 3032785 if you are in the UK – select option 1)

Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Saturday to Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

This is a free phone number, but network charges may still apply.

You will need to provide information about yourself and your family members, as well as your contact details. UKVI will then confirm if you are eligible for a family migration visa and share details of the free (free) application process.

If you are not eligible for a family migration visa, you will be advised to consider applying for another visa.

After applying

You will need to attend an appointment at a Visa Application Center (VAC) to provide your biometric (fingerprint) information. The VAC in Kyiv is managed by our business partner TLScontact.

More information about their value-added services, including flexible (walk-in) appointments, can be found on their website.

You can upload your application supporting documents online before you come to your ACC appointment or you can have your documents uploaded during your appointment. There is a fee to upload your documents to the VAC.

There is a “keep my passport” service available at the VAC in Kyiv which allows you to keep your passport while your application is being processed. There is normally a charge for this service, but there is currently no charge for anyone applying for a Ukraine visa.

If your passport is at the VAC because you are awaiting a decision on an existing application, you can retrieve your passport at no additional cost. Contact the VAC to arrange collection.

The necessary time

UKVI aims to process family migration visa applications or contact you about your application within 24 hours of submitting your biometrics (fingerprints) to VAC. The visa will then be dispatched and the VAC will contact you to return your passport for the visa to be affixed.

Other visas

Ukrainian nationals in Ukraine (who are not immediate family members of UK nationals normally living in Ukraine, or where the UK national lives in the UK), may continue to make applications to visit, work, study or join their family in the UK in the normal way. Check which visas are available.

If you need help, contact UKVI:

Telephone: + 44 300 3032785 – select option 3 (0300 3032785 if you are in the UK – select option 3)

If you need to travel to the UK urgently

If you need to travel to the UK urgently for compassionate reasons, you should apply for a visa in the usual way and include clear compelling or compassionate reasons for your visit in your application. You must also inform the VAC staff of these reasons during your appointment.

Ukrainians in the UK

If you are in the UK on an existing visa, you must continue to meet the requirements of that visa.

Any changes to visa requirements for Ukrainian nationals already in the UK will be added to this page. Check back for updates.
