SERAC-Bangladesh Hosts Youth Family Planning Meeting
SERAC-Bangladesh held a meeting with journalists on the Youth Family Planning Policy Dashboard.
SERAC-Bangladesh Executive Director SM Shaikat chaired the meeting held at the Bishwa Shahitto Kendro building in the capital on Saturday, a press release read.
SERAC-Bangladesh CCSC officials Khadija Kalam and Monower Hossian who helped translate the dashboard into Bengali were present on the occasion.
The dashboard was developed by the Population Reference Bureau (PRB) and launched in Bangladesh by SERAC in February this year.
SM Shaikat introduced the Youth Family Planning Policy Dashboard and shared information on the family planning (FP) policy environment of Bangladesh as depicted in the dashboard. The eight indicators which include parental and spousal consent, provider authorization, restrictions based on age, restrictions based on marital status, access to a full range of FP methods, comprehensive sex education (CSE), youth-friendly FP service delivery, and social networking environment; and four categories of green, yellow, red and gray colors have been described to better understand the current political scenario.
In addition, demands from youth across the country regarding access to FP services were also discussed to showcase the importance of forming a supportive and youth-friendly settlement environment.
Taboos and neglect of adolescent and youth reproductive health issues were also addressed by journalists. The meeting was organized to share information as well as to activate cooperation with the media and journalists to draw the attention of policy makers to take the necessary measures to improve the environment for young people.
