Music by talented family members shows Caragh and Aidan “how wonderful life is…”

The artists were not lacking at the wedding of the couple Kerry Caragh Neeson and Aidan O’Donoghue.

Caragh’s father, Michael Neeson, a well-known musician, and his talented son, Ryan Neeson, were just two of those willing to serenade the newlyweds.

Caragh, from Marian Terrace, Killarney, and Aidan, from O’Sullivan’s Place, Killarney, were married at St Mary’s Cathedral, Killarney, by parish administrator Fr Kieran O’Brien in April.

“The day was one of the hottest of the year and it started at 6am with hair and makeup at my parents’ house in Marian Terrace. It was nice to have some of the neighbors stop by and with best wishes,” says Caragh.

Sharon Lyons provided church music as the bride, daughter of Breeda and Michael Neeson, and groom, son of Anne and the late Eamon O’Donoghue, exchanged vows.

Ian Cronin, photographer, led the newlyweds on a photoshoot, around scenic spots including Killarney House and Gardens, before the newlyweds joined their guests at the five-star Aghadoe Heights hotel.

“The Aghadoe staff couldn’t do enough for us, and when we arrived, the weather was so nice that we sat on the terrace,” says the bride.

“Our meal was in the penthouse, where there were 28 of us. That evening some of our close friends and family joined us and we had music from the Moynihan Brothers, accompanied by Frank Culloty, l friend of Aidan. That being said, as my dad is a musician, I think everyone had a chance to sing a few songs by the end of the night.”

“Ryan, my son, was a big part of the wedding celebrations. At the reception he sang and played guitar, performing Elton John’s Your song and Bon Jovi’s It’s my life for our guests. There was not a dry eye in the room. Ryan is currently entering sixth grade and hopes to study music after school.

It was during their own school days, just a few miles from their receiving venue at Holy Cross Mercy National School, that Caragh and Aidan first met.

Their paths would also cross attending basketball games and playing badminton at St Mary’s Parish Hall in Killarney over the years.

“Then in 2016-17, Ryan was a member of the Deerpark Pitch & Putt Club, where Aidan is chair of the pitches committee, and during that time Aidan and I got to know each other better,” says Caragh.

“We went on our first date in Dingle in December 2017, and haven’t looked back since.”

Covid halted Aidan’s initial engagement plans, but when the restrictions were lifted he popped the question in July 2020 at the Mount Falcon Estate in County Mayo.

“We had previously visited in 2019 and loved it so much we came back – only this time it was for a special evening and celebration,” the bride explains.

On her wedding day, Caragh’s friends Jessica Breen and Deirdre Nolan were by her side as bridesmaid and bridesmaid, while Aidan’s friend Damien Fleming lent his support as a best man and that his brother Colm O’Donoghue was his best man.

Friends from Chicago also joined in the fun that night. “Aidan had met them in 2016 when he was their tour guide and they immediately had a connection and they came for our wedding week,” the bride explains.

Caragh looked perfect in a Madi Lane dress and LauraLou Hair and Aine Doherty created the bridal hairstyles and makeup, while Aidan and her party looked dapper thanks to Formally Yours, High Street, Killarney.

“The dress was purchased in Rathnew, Co Wicklow, from O’Brien’s bridal shop. I fell in love with it when I saw a picture of it online,” says Caragh.

Tie the Knot weddings, Abbeyfeale, Co Limerick, created the flower arrangements.

The newlyweds, who live in Killarney, enjoyed a mini-moon in Galway and also revisited Mount Falcon, the location of their engagement.

“We are traveling to the United States in November,” the bride explains.

Caragh is an accountant with FDC Group in Killarney, and Aidan is a driver for O’Callaghan Coaches, Killarney.
