Launch of a campaign on the merits of family planning

The Rawalpindi District Population Welfare Department will observe a week-long drive as part of the “World Population Day” from July 18 to 22, highlighting its importance for a healthy society.

Speaking to the media, the district population officer, Sheery Sukhan, said the department is taking all measures to sensitize the masses on the importance of family planning and expand relevant services so that the marginalized part of the population and young people can plan their families.

She said seminars, marches and workshops would be held in all tehsils in the district including Taxila, Murree, Gujar Khan, Kotli Sattian, Kahuta and Rawalpindi.

The population officer said speech contests would be held in all tehsil headquarters to mobilize people in rural areas of the district and raise awareness on various issues including family planning and the concept of small families.

Sheery said family planning was vital to the development of the country, adding that when couples decide to have smaller, healthier families, it benefits the community socially, economically and environmentally.
