With four locations, including Coshocton and Millersburg, Kno-Ho-Co offers many services to local residents in the communities it serves, including Knox, Holmes, Coshocton and Ashland counties.
âThe goal of family planning is to improve the overall health and well-being of women, men and adolescents,â according to program administrator Kelly Corrigan. âThis is accomplished in many ways by our program staff. We provide contraceptives, STD tests and treatment, as well as a reference for pregnancy tests. In addition, cancer screenings, mammogram referrals and a host of educational and counseling services are available to patients.
âThe target population served are low-income and uninsured people. All services are provided on a sliding scale, and no one is turned away due to inability to pay. Kno-Ho-Co also runs telehealth services. for those who have travel difficulties or are not available for a meeting time.
âThe program has been operating in Ashland, Coshocton and Knox counties for over 40 years, and recently began services in Holmes County. Kno-Ho-Co employs nurse practitioners and they are supervised by a director. Family Planning Clinics are the only federally funded clinics operating nationwide offering comprehensive reproductive health services and all FDA-approved contraceptive methods on-site. This means patients receive all of their contraceptives on-site. prescription at the time of their visit. We can provide IUDs, Nexplanon implants, birth control pills and NuvaRings without the patient ever leaving the clinic, and nowhere else can a patient receive such comprehensive services. “
Lindsey Bryan, a nurse practitioner who visits each of the clinics regularly, has always had a fondness for women’s health as a registered nurse, spending nine years in the labor and delivery department of Southeastern Med as part of their birthing center.
âI’ve always had a desire to work in a women’s health care setting since completing my undergraduate training,â Lindsey explained. âIt was then that I knew I wanted to take care of women in childbirth. As I progressed in my studies and became a nurse practitioner, my passion has remained in helping women with their health care Women tend to be the lifeblood of their families’ health, but we mostly put ourselves aside.
âAs a mother of three, it is so important for me to emphasize to other mothers that their health matters. I believe that every stage of a woman’s life brings challenges from a young age to someone who entering adulthood. They wonder when they should start mammograms and pelvic exams, or older women are considering when or if they should stop these procedures. At Kno-Ho-Co, we can answer these questions and assess your comprehensive protocol for women’s health needs.
From day one, women have been told how important it is to take care of their health, and Kno-Ho-Co supports patients with this advice. They present women’s access to healthcare and want you to use these valuable services as they benefit a patient’s overall health in many ways. âA misconception that I want to dispel is that our young patients think they need to have a pelvic / pap exam to get contraception, but we don’t start these exams until they are 21, unless they are. there isn’t a health problem that dictates one sooner, âLindsey added. âThis means that in most cases, those who want birth control, but not the test, can ease the apprehension surrounding this procedure. We start seeing young women at the age of 13 â.
