The Jewish Family Service of Greater New Haven Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Alissa Wurtzel as CEO.

For the past twenty years, Alissa has spent her professional life improving the social and emotional well-being of individuals and families, most recently as Clinical Director of the Jewish Family Service of Greater New Haven. In this role, Alissa is leading the agency’s implementation of a new electronic health records system and has redesigned and restructured a number of critical programs serving the most vulnerable in the community. Working with the agency’s leadership team, Alissa helped ensure their post-pandemic roadmap includes improving timely and accessible services for seniors, Holocaust survivors and their caregivers, people with mental health issues, people in need of emergency assistance, food and/or shelter. Support.

A Registered Clinical Social Worker, Alissa has worked with clients as young as 4 and as old as 107. Her areas of expertise are trauma-informed care, EMDR, medical social work, and concurrent disorders including chronic pain.

During her career, she worked as the Director of Psychological Health for the Connecticut National Guard as well as a Senior Clinician at Community Health Center Inc. Prior to joining JFS of Greater New Haven, Alissa worked as a Medical Social Worker for the Hartford Health Care Hospice Program, giving families the education, materials and access to the spiritual, religious and cultural supports they need to care for loved ones at the end of their lives.

Originally from Connecticut, Alissa earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UCONN. At school, throughout her career, and now at JFS of Greater New Haven, Alissa has worked diligently and passionately to ensure that equity and inclusion are cornerstones of her practice and that people from diverse backgrounds, especially those who are traditionally underserved, feel welcome and supported. each time they access and receive care.
