Alexander Murkison was appointed to the board of directors of the Santa Barbara County Family Service Agency (FSA), also known as Santa Maria Valley Youth and Family Center and Guadalupe’s Little House By The Park.
Murkison is the advancement associate at Midland School in Los Olivos. A recent graduate of Allan Hancock College, he is passionate about supporting mental health in schools, and is an advocate and activist in the community.
Originally from Lompoc, Murkison focuses on caring for the large population of under-represented and disadvantaged individuals in the community. He ran in the 2020 school board election on the main issue of mental health. Although he was not elected, he said the experience allowed him to engage in the community in a way he could not have done otherwise.
“We are very pleased that Alex has joined the FSA Board of Directors,” said Lisa Brabo, FSA Executive Director. “He brings a lived experience and a perspective that will greatly contribute to our effectiveness. “
The FSA is a non-profit social service agency that has served Santa Barbara County since 1899. The FSA helps the community’s most vulnerable children, families and seniors meet their basic needs while meeting basic needs. mental health needs.
